Sean Jones - Gemini (Mack Avenue Records) Gemini kicks off with a sweep of virtuosity from Sean Jones, one of the most exciting young trumpeters on the American jazz scene. His new album features a fine mix of bop, blues and gospel, performed by killer musicians including pianist Mulgrew Miller.

Jones's trumpet journey started in the church, led to university training (Rutgers), and has now made him a rising star on the New York jazz scene including important gigs with the likes of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Gemini is Jones's second release on Mack Avenue.

Tommaso Starace - Plays the Music of Elliott Erwitt (Frame)
Tommaso Starace, a blazing young saxophonist who lives in Britain, has based his new album on the photos of Magnum photographer Elliott Erwitt.

The compositions are in a swinging, hard bop mode and feature fine playing by some of London's most in demand musicians, including stand-out vibraphonist Roger Beaujolais. In concert, Starace performs with large screen projections of Erwitt's photographs. The project has been presented at such notable London venues as the National Theater and the National Portrait Gallery. Future performances will take place in Zimbabwe, Switzerland, and Milan.

Marcos Amorim - Sete Capelas (Seven Chapels) (Adventure Music)

Amorim is one of the top guitarists in Brazil's jazz scene and on Capelas he is joined by an exceptional Brazilian rhythm section. The album features ten melodic original compositions that blend Brazilian styles of music with other genres, creating a kind of universal music. Flutist Nivaldo Ornelas joins the trio on three selections. Capelas is Amorim's second release on Adventure Music.

Tineke Postma - For the Rhythm (215/Munich Records)
Postma, a 27 year-old Dutch saxophonist, explores the world of post bop on a mix of original compositions and interpretations, like Kenny Barron's "Voyage." Trained in Dutch and American conservatories (she studied with Dave Liebman and Chris Potter), Postma has toured throughout the US and Europe including several major European festivals. Rhythm is Postma's second album, and she is joined by a fine group that includes drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, a veteran of the Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter bands.
